Gain recognition for High Point as an exciting, vibrant city that has the resources and the initiative to improve its citizens’ and neighbors’ quality of life.
Host a multiday event, centered on the USA Cycling Professional Criterium National Championship, that draws people to downtown High Point, delivers a fun and exciting, multi-faceted family-friendly experience, and supports selected local charities.
The criterium – or “crit” – is one of the most exciting formats in bicycle racing. Run on a short course, it’s a quick, fast-action race that fans can watch from start to finish. Now in its fourth successful year, the High Point Cycling Classic is a fun, exciting competition right in the heart of downtown High Point. Plus, for the next two years, we will also host one of our country’s premier cycling events, the USA Cycling Professional Criterium National Championships.
Pursuing our vision to gain recognition for High Point as a vibrant city that takes the initiative to improve its citizens’ and neighbors’ quality of life, we have packaged this sporting event into two fun-filled, day long downtown festivals. There will be amateur races for cyclists of all skill levels, including kids. Local bands, as well as food and beverage vendors and hospitality tents, sponsored by local businesses, will add to the festival atmosphere.
In addition to attracting local families looking for a great way to spend a summer weekend, the High Point Cycling Classic Championship will draw in cycling fans from across the state and region, making downtown High Point a center of attention in advance of and during race weekend. Plus, we expect this event to be a real boon to local charities. Due to excellent support and attendance in our first three years, we have raised more than $90,000 for such notable and worthy causes as:
• Oak Hill Elementary
• Open Door Ministries
• The Community Clinic of High Point
• United Way of Greater High Point
• High Point Area Arts Council
• Theatre Art Galleries
• The John Yowell Youth Outreach Fund / Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church
• National Multiple Sclerosis Society Central North Carolina Chapter
